Dental Treatment in Turkey

Dentistry is the most common reason people travel to Turkey for treatment, and the arithmetic explains why. A single implant costs £2,000–£2,500 in the UK and €1,800–€3,000 in Germany. In Turkey the same implant, using the same globally recognised brands, typically costs €450–€700. For a patient needing six implants, the difference covers the flights, the hotel and the holiday several times over.

The saving comes from operating costs, not from cutting corners on materials. Turkish clinics buy the same Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem and MegaGen implants as European practices; the titanium in your jaw is identical. What differs is the cost of running the building and paying the team.

Volume also builds skill. A Turkish implantologist working in a busy coastal clinic places more implants in a year than many European dentists place in a decade, and implant placement is a procedure where hands-on repetition genuinely matters.

These three get confused constantly, and clinics sometimes exploit the confusion. An implant replaces a missing tooth root: a titanium screw placed in the jawbone, later topped with a crown. It is the only option that restores a tooth you no longer have.

A crown covers a damaged but still present tooth, restoring shape and strength. Veneers are thin shells bonded to the front of healthy teeth purely to change appearance — colour, shape, alignment. A veneer cannot fix a missing tooth and should never be used to grind down a perfectly healthy one just to change its colour.

Be cautious with clinics that answer every question with veneers. If your teeth are healthy and you want them whiter, whitening or minimal-prep options should be discussed first. A dentist willing to talk you out of the more expensive treatment is worth flying for.

When most or all teeth in a jaw are missing or unsalvageable, individual implants for each tooth are neither necessary nor affordable. All-on-4 places four implants at carefully chosen angles to support a full fixed bridge; All-on-6 uses six for greater load distribution, usually recommended when bone quality allows or when the patient has a strong bite.

The appeal is speed: in many cases a temporary fixed bridge is fitted the same day, so you do not leave the clinic without teeth. The permanent bridge follows after healing, typically three to six months later.

Bone volume decides everything here. Long-term tooth loss causes the jaw to shrink, and if there is not enough bone, grafting or a sinus lift may be needed first — which adds months to the plan. This is why a CT scan on day one is non-negotiable, and why quotes given from a photograph are meaningless.

Ask what the price includes. A complete implant price should cover the implant itself, the abutment and the final crown. Some quotes cover only the screw, and the crown appears as a surprise later — often doubling the cost. Also confirm whether temporary teeth, extractions, cleaning and any grafting are inside or outside the quote.

A proper package additionally covers hotel nights around treatment, airport transfers and a coordinator who speaks your language. What no package should include is pressure: if a clinic quotes a full mouth of veneers before seeing an X-ray, that is a sales operation, not a dental plan.

This is the single most important thing to understand before booking. Implants need to fuse with the bone — a biological process called osseointegration that takes three to six months and cannot be rushed. It is not a scheduling preference; it is bone biology.

First trip, three to five days: consultation, CT scan and X-rays, extractions if needed, implant placement, and temporary teeth so you leave looking normal. Second trip, three to five days, three to six months later: impressions, fitting and adjustment of the permanent crowns or bridge.

Veneers and crowns on existing teeth are different — those can usually be completed in a single trip of five to seven days, because no healing period is required. Any clinic promising permanent implant crowns in one week is either mislabelling temporaries or taking a shortcut you do not want in your jaw.

The first three days after implant placement bring swelling and mild discomfort, well controlled with prescribed painkillers. Most patients describe it as less unpleasant than they feared. You eat soft food for about a week and avoid smoking, which meaningfully reduces implant success.

Stitches, if not dissolvable, come out after seven to ten days — your own dentist at home can do this, and we send instructions in advance. Between the two trips you live normally with your temporary teeth.

After the permanent restoration is fitted, there is an adjustment period of a week or two while your bite settles and speech adapts, particularly with a full-arch bridge. Minor adjustments are normal and expected.

Ask for the implant brand in writing before you fly, and ask for the implant passport afterwards — a document recording exactly which system was placed. This matters years later: if a component ever needs replacing, any dentist in the world can order the right part only if the brand is known.

For crowns and veneers, zirconia and e.max are the materials worth discussing. Zirconia is stronger and suits back teeth and full-arch bridges; e.max is more translucent and generally more natural at the front. A clinic that uses one material for everything is optimising for its lab, not your mouth.

Guarantees vary and the wording matters more than the number of years. Ask what happens if an implant fails, who pays for the replacement component, and who pays for the return flight. Our partner clinics provide written guarantees with those questions answered before you commit.

Turkish dental clinics treating international patients must be licensed by the Ministry of Health, and many hold international accreditation as well. Ask which dentist will treat you, whether they specialise in implantology or prosthodontics, and how many cases like yours they handle.

Insist on a CT scan and a written treatment plan before any irreversible work begins. Photograph-based quotes are marketing estimates and change on arrival — often upwards, after you have already flown.
